Cavaliers Topple Texas A&M in Match Play

Nashville, Tenn. – The 11th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team defeated Texas A&M 3-2 to record the ACC’s only victory in five head-to-head match play events to wrap up the DICK’s Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup in Nashville, Tenn.
Ji Soo Park, David Pastore and Denny McCarthy all picked up victories for the Cavaliers. Park defeated Adria Arnaus 3&2, Pastore downed Ty Dunlap 2&1 and in the featured match, McCarthy defeated Ben Crancer 2 UP. Crancer won the stroke play portion of the tournament, shooting 16-under 197.
Texas A&M, the 2009 NCAA Champions, picked up its two wins when Jade Scott defeated Jimmy Stanger 4&3 and Andrew Lister downed Nick McLaughlin 8&6.
Overall, the SEC claimed victory in total matches won by a count of 17-8.
The Cavaliers return to action Oct. 11-13 when they play at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn.
