WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Sophomores Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) claimed singles titles Sunday (Sept. 22) to lead the Virginia women’s tennis team at the Tribe Invitational.
Elbaba defeated her Virginia teammate Rachel Pierson (Princeton, N.J.) 6-4, 0-6, 6-1 to claim the Megan Moulton-Levy singles flight.
Collins claimed the title in the Lauren Nikolaus flight by defeating William & Mary’s Maria Belaya 6-4, 6-3.
Virginia senior captain Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) placed second in the Kristine Kurth flight after retiring in the finals against South Carolina’s Ximena Siles-Luna.
The Cavaliers competed in singles and doubles against players from Arkansas, Dartmouth, Harvard, Marshall, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Utah, VCU and host William & Mary during the three-day invitational.
Virginia returns to action at the ITA All-American Championship beginning Sept. 28 in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
