PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Virginia sophomores Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) were eliminated in the second round of the qualifying doubles draw Wednesday (Oct. 2) at the 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club.

Collins and Epstein lost 8-4 to USC’s Giuliana Olmos and Zoe Scandalis. In qualifying doubles back draw play, sophomore Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and freshman Rachel Pierson (Princeton, N.J.) defeated Cal’s Klara Fabikova and Zsofi Susanyi 8-5.

In qualifying singles back draw action, Collins defeated Yale’s Annie Sullivan 6-2, 6-4 and sophomore Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) added a 6-2, 6-4 win over Miami’s Kelsey Laurente. Pierson suffered a 6-1, 7-6(2) loss to UNLV’s Lucia Batta.

Main draw action is set to begin tomorrow. No. 8 seed Elbaba battles Auburn’s Pleun Burgmans in the round of 32.

Senior Li Xi (Kunming, China) and Nauta face Duke’s Ester Goldfeld and Annie Mulholland in the doubles main draw round of 32.

Singles semifinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 7-10 in Flushing, NY.
