TULSA, Okla. – Virginia junior Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) advanced to the singles quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championships during Friday’s action at the Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa.
Frank defeated Winston Lin of Columbia, 6-0, 7-6(4) in the round of 16. Frank, the No. 12 seed, is one of just three seeded players to reach the quarterfinals and is the highest remaining seed. He will play No. 14 seed Jared Hiltzik of Illinois on Saturday.
Virginia has a quarterfinalist at the event, the first major championship of the year, for the fourth consecutive season, the longest active streak in the nation. Cavaliers have won the last three ITA All-American singles titles, including Frank in 2011.
In doubles, the fifth-seeded pair of Frank and sophomore Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) fell in the round of 16 to Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur of Columbia, 8-3.
The ITA All-American Championships run through Sunday in Tulsa.
