TULSA, Okla. – Virginia junior Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) advanced to the singles final of the ITA All-American Championships during Saturday’s action at the Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa. Frank won a pair of matches and will play for his second All-American title and the Cavaliers fourth consecutive title on Sunday.
Frank, the No. 12 seed, opened the day with a 6-2, 7-6(5) quarterfinal win over No. 14 seed Jared Hiltzik of Illinois. He followed that win with a 6-2, 6-3 semifinal victory over Julian Lenz of Baylor. He will play Guillermo Alcorta of Oklahoma in the final.
Frank, the 2011 ITA All-American singles champion, will look to become the fourth player in the 35-year history of the tournament to be a two-time champion. Virginia is looking for an unprecedented fourth consecutive singles title at the event. The Cavaliers became the first school to win three straight titles last year as Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) won his second championship.
Sunday’s championship match is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT (11 a.m. ET).
