Richmond and Aragone Reach UVa Fall Classic Flight Finals

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team continued play Saturday at the UVa Fall Classic, the team’s final home tournament of the fall season. The Cavaliers had two singles players advance to flight finals during the second day of play.
Sophomore Harrison Richmond (Pawleys Island, S.C.), the top seed in the Blue Singles draw, advanced to the final with a 6-2, 6-4 win over fourth-seeded Shea Thomas of Liberty. He will play Michal Voseck of VCU in Sunday’s final.
First-year J.C. Aragone (Yorba Linda, Calif.) rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 semifinal win over Ben Quazzo of Princeton in the White Singles draw. He plays top-seeded Diego Nunez of East Tennessee State in the final of that bracket.
Senior Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) suffered a semifinal loss in the Orange Singles and sophomore Jonathan Cornish (London, England) had to withdraw from the Gold Singles draw before his semifinal match.
In doubles, both Cavalier teams lost in the semifinals. The team of Shane and Richmond had to withdraw from the Blue Doubles draw before their semifinal match. Cornish and sophomore Alex Scheinman (Los Angeles, Calif.) suffered a semifinal loss in the Gold Doubles sraw.
The tournament concludes Sunday with action at the Snyder Tennis Center beginning at 9 a.m. Admission is free.
