CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia volleyball team hosts North Carolina (Oct. 18) and NC State (Oct. 19) this weekend at Memorial Gymnasium. Both matches are set for 7 p.m. starts.
Fans who attend Saturday’s UVa football game against Duke can bring their ticket stubs and receive free admission Saturday’s volleyball match against NC State (based on availability). Saturday’s match will also be the Cavaliers’ Dig Pink game to support breast cancer research. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free pink Virginia volleyball t-shirt.
Live statistics for both matches will be available and linked through VirginiaSports.com. Both matches will be streamed live online at VirginiaSports.com as part of Cavaliers Live, UVa’s live audio and video streaming offering (subscription required).
Single-match general admission tickets are $5. Youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission tickets are $4 and group tickets (20 or more) are $3 per ticket. Fans can order tickets online at VirginiaSports.com and by phone through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office at 800-542-UVA1 (8821) or 434-924-UVA1 (8821). Tickets are also available at the gate beginning one hour prior to the start of each match.
Game-day parking for volleyball matches is available free of charge at the Culbreth Road Garage, located behind Carr’s Hill Field. Limited parking is available at the Central Grounds Garage (hourly rates apply).
UVa (10-6, 3-3 ACC) split a pair of ACC matches last weekend, falling to Syracuse, 3-1, before defeating Boston College, 3-2. Sophomore Lauren Fuller (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) is second in the ACC and 26th in the country with 11.24 assists per set, while junior Tori Janowski (Sterling, Va. ) is 59th nationally in service aces per set (0.38) and 60th in kills per set (3.81).
The Tar Heels (16-1, 5-1 ACC) lost for the first time last weekend, 3-0 to Duke, before sweeping Wake Forest. Jovana Bjelica leads UNC with 3.39 kills per set and 20 service aces.
UNC leads the all-time series, 40-14, and won the last meeting, 3-0, on Nov. 17, 2012 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Wolfpack (14-4, 5-1 ACC) have won five consecutive matches, including wins over Wake Forest and Duke last weekend. Dariyan Hopper leads the squad with 3.47 kills per set and five other Wolfpack players average over two kills per frame.
UVa leads the all-time series, 36-23, but the Wolfpack won the last meeting, 3-0, on Nov. 16, 2012 in Raleigh, N.C.
Up next, the Cavaliers travel to in-state rival Virginia Tech on Wednesday, Oct. 23. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
