CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia volleyball team dropped a three-set match to NC State, 25-21, 25-17 and 25-14, Saturday night (Oct. 19) at Memorial Gymnasium. With the loss, the Cavaliers fell to 10-10 for the season and 3-5 in ACC play. The Wolfpack improved to 15-5 (6-2 ACC).
NC State hit a .269 average for the match, while UVa only hit at .094. Virginia held the advantage in blocks, 9-6, but the Wolfpack led in digs, 57-46.
With eight kills, first-year Haley Kole (Tallahassee, Fla.) now has 270 kills this season, the 10th-most in UVa freshman history.
Fellow freshman Jasmine Burton (White Hills, Calif.) led UVa with nine kills, while senior Emily Rottman (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led the squad with 19 digs.
In the first set with the Wolfpack leading 10-9, NC State went on a 6-0 run and continued to win the frame, 25-21.
NC State won the second set after hitting .273 while holding the Cavaliers to a .054 hitting percentage. The third was more of the same, with the Wolfpack hitting .343 and UVa hitting .050.
Dariyan Hoper led NC State with 13 kills.
The Cavaliers return to action Wednesday when they travel to Blacksburg, Va., to face in-state rival Virginia Tech at 7 p.m.
