Virginia Sweeps Singles and Doubles Titles at ITA Atlantic Regional

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) won the singles title and Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and Rachel Pierson (Princeton, N.J.) claimed the doubles title as Virginia concluded a dominant week of action Tuesday (Oct. 22) at the ITA Atlantic Regional at Snyder Tennis Center.
Collins capped an impressive performance in the tournament, beating Pierson 6-2, 6-0 in the final to earn automatic qualification into the ITA National Indoor Singles Championship.
Elbaba, who earned automatic qualification after earning the consolation title at the Riviera/ITA All-American this fall, will join Collins at the championship.
Pierson, who has an 11-4 fall record, awaits a possible at-large berth into the singles championship.
Elbaba and Pierson defeated William & Mary’s seventh-ranked tandem of Jeltje Loomans and Maria Belaya, 8-2, in the final to earn automatic qualification into the ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship. Elbaba and Pierson also defeated teammates Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) and Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.), 8-4, in the semifinals.
The ITA National Indoor Championships are set for Nov. 7-10 at the indoor facilities at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, N.Y.
