Cavaliers Entertain New ACC Foe Notre Dame Sunday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va–The Virginia volleyball team hosts new ACC member Notre Dame on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Gymnasium.

Live statistics for the match will be available and linked through VirginiaSports.com. The match will be streamed live online at VirginiaSports.com as part of Cavaliers Live, UVa’s live audio and video streaming offering (subscription required).

Single-match general admission tickets are $5. Youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission tickets are $4 and group tickets (20 or more) are $3 per ticket. Fans can order tickets online at VirginiaSports.com and by phone through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office at 800-542-UVA1 (8821) or 434-924-UVA1 (8821). Tickets are also available at the gate beginning one hour prior to the start of each match.

Game-day parking for volleyball matches is available free of charge at the Culbreth Road Garage, located behind Carr’s Hill Field. Limited parking is available at the Central Grounds Garage (hourly rates apply).

UVa (11-10, 4-5 ACC) defeated in-state rival Virginia Tech, 3-1, Wednesday evening in Blacksburg, Va. It was the Cavaliers’ first victory over the Hokies since 2009. Freshmen Haley Kole (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Jasmine Burton (White Hills, Calif.) each recorded season highs in kills Wednesday. Kole led the squad with 23 kills, while Burton added 21. Sophomore Lauren Fuller (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) dished out 56 assists.

Senior Emily Rottman (Santa Barbara, Calif.) is 15 digs away from moving into the top three in career digs in program history. She currently has 1,588.

The Irish (8-11, 2-6 ACC) split a pair of ACC matches last weekend, defeating Miami, 3-1, before falling to Florida State, 3-0. Notre Dame is led by Toni Alugbue, who averages 3.08 kills per set, and Jeni Houser, who is 10th in the ACC in hitting with a .308 percentage.

This will be only the second meeting between the programs, with Notre Dame taking the only match-up, 3-0, on Oct. 25, 1986 in Charlottesville.

Up next, the Cavaliers travel to Georgia Tech and Clemson next weekend (Nov 1-2). Both matches are set for 6 p.m. starts.
