COLUMBUS, Ohio—Two more school records fell as the Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams completed action at the Ohio State Invite Sunday (Nov. 24) at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

The No. 12 Cavalier women placed second overall with 1,095 points, just behind No. 5 Florida (1,099), but ahead of No. 19 Ohio State (616.5), No. 16 Purdue (571.5) and Kentucky (418). The No. 18 UVa men, finished third with 801.5 points, behind No. 10 Ohio State (1,137) and No. 2 Florida (1,090.5) and ahead of Kentucky (476) and Purdue (133).

Sophomore Courtney Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) claimed first in the women’s 200 back in a time of 1:50.55, a new UVa, ACC, McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion and Ohio State Invite record, as well as an automatic NCAA-qualifying mark. The time moves Bartholomew into the ninth place on the all-time Top 10 in the event. She broke the school and conference record earlier in the day during prelims with a time of 1:51.19.

Junior Ellen Williamson (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) placed third in 1:54.73, while freshman Kaitlyn Jones (Newark, Del.) was fourth in 1:55.28. Jones’ prelim time of 1:54.83 ranks seventh on UVa’s all-time list.

In the women’s 200 breast, freshman Laura Simon (Simmern, Germany) set a new Virginia and ACC record in 2:08.47 en route to a second-place finish. Sophomore Natalie Martin (Haymarket, Va.) was fifth in 2:14.40.

Freshman Leah Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.) placed third in the women’s 1,650 free in a time of 15:57.44, the second-fastest time in school history and an automatic NCAA-qualifying time. Junior Kelly Offutt (Reisterstown, Md.) was seventh (16:15.59) and sophomore Hanne Borgersen (Frederick, Md.) was eighth (16:20.08).

Sophomore Luke Papendick (Kinnelon, N.J.) earned second in the men’s 200 back in 1:42.26, ahead of senior Parker Camp (Brentwood, Tenn.) and freshman Austin Quinn (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) in seventh (1:45.10) and eighth (1:45.28). Camp had a prelim time of 1:42.65, the second-best mark on UVa’s all-time list.

In the men’s 1,650 free, seniors Jan Daniec (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Brad Phillips (Herndon, Va.) finished third and fourth in 15:00.90 and 15:09.07, respectively.

The Cavalier men were third and fourth in the men’s 200 breast as well, with sophomore Yannick Kaeser (Mumpf, Switzerland) and Taylor Grey (Williston, Vt.) finishing in 1:57.66 and 1:58.15, respectively.

Junior David Ingraham (Spartanburg, S.C.) placed fourth in the men’s 200 fly in 1:46.49, while senior Nathan Hart (Asheville, N.C.) was eighth in 1:49.33.

In the women’s 200 fly, junior Shaun Casey (Port Orange, Fla.) touched fifth in 1:57.52, just ahead of classmate Alison Haulsee (Glen Allen, Va.) in sixth in 1:57.63. Sophomore Rachel Moore (Andover, Mass.) was eighth in 2:00.10.

Senior Emily Lloyd (Severna Park, Md.) placed sixth in the women’s 100 free in 49.92.

In platform diving, junior Laura Gartrell (Fairfax, Va.) and sophomore Becca Corbett (Louisville, Ky.) placed sixth (202.05) and seventh (199.90) for the women, while junior JB Kolod (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was fifth on the men’s side with a score of 306.80.

To close out the meet, UVa finished third in both the men’s and women’s 400 free relay events. The women’s team of Jones, Bartholomew, senior Rachel Naurath (Manakin-Sabot, Va.) and Lloyd finished in 3:18.61, while the men’s foursome of Camp, Papendick, Phillips and junior Kyle Dudzinski (Pittsburgh, Pa.) clocked a time of 2:57.01.

The Cavaliers will open 2014 with a meet at Virginia Tech Jan. 17-18, which will feature the host Hokies, Wisconsin, Miami (women only) and Harvard (men only).
