CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia football players Eli Harold and Eric Smith were honored on postseason teams by College Football News. Harold was named a second-team honoree on the all-sophomore team at defensive end, while Smith was an honorable mention offensive lineman on the all-freshman team.
Harold (Virginia Beach, Va.) led UVa with 15.0 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. His 15.0 tackles for loss rank No. 6 in the ACC and No. 7 all-time at UVa for a season. The 8.5 sacks are the fourth most by an underclassman in the nation and rank No. 14 all-time at UVa for a season.
Smith (Decatur, Ga.) made his collegiate debut against VMI and started the last eight games for the Cavaliers at right tackle. Smith became only the fourth true freshman to start at a tackle position in UVa program history. D’Brickashaw Ferguson was the first in 2002, followed later that season by Brad Butler. Morgan Moses was the third in 2010. Butler, Moses and Smith all made their starts at right tackle, while Ferguson started the entire 2002 season at left tackle.
