Head coach Joanne Boyle
“I give a lot of credit to Tulane. We got down early, which forced us out of the zone. We tried to play some man-to-man. I am just struggling with the 45 free throws [Tulane took] in the game. It is tough to swallow. We are just trying to figure it out right now. Part of it, too, is that we have to make plays down the stretch. That would have helped us. We just need to mature as a team down the stretch. I think that is our problem. We need to take ownership of limiting second-chance points. Free throw box and things that are under our control really cost us tonight. We can’t control the refs, but we can control what we do and we didn’t do a good job of that the last couple of minutes down the stretch.”
On the team erasing 20-point and an eight-point deficits
I am pleased with the effort and everything, but we find ourselves in these situations where we fight, but now we have to mentally mature down the stretch and be able to take care of business and not shooting ourselves in the foot.
Senior guard Lexie Gerson
“I thought that we had great energy going into halftime. We had the momentum and we came out pretty strong. We just couldn’t finish it. It was really free throws and we missed so many box outs. Rebounds. It is the same things we have been harping on forever.
On switching to man defense
“We made some adjustments during the game. Number 20 [Danielle Blagg] was going off at one point, making deep threes, so we made an adjustment, which happened to be going to man. I don’t think that is something that we are going to continue to do, but you never know.
On preparing for Saturday
We need to have a short memory. As tough as this loss was, you just have to let it go. We have another opportunity tomorrow. From a different perspective, that is a great thing. It is a quick turnaround and a chance to make another statement.
