Cavaliers Fall to Towson, 7-2

CONWAY, S.C.—The Virginia softball team fell to Towson, 7-2, Sunday (Feb. 16) on the final day of a tournament at Coastal Carolina. With the loss, the Cavaliers fell to 1-7, while the Tigers improved to 5-3.
Freshman Madison Labshere (El Cajon, Calif.) had a career day, going 4-for-4 with an RBI, and was named to the all-tournament team.
Virginia scored both of its runs in the third inning, as senior Stephanie Harris (Knoxville, Tenn.) led off with a home run to left, followed by junior Heidi Velk (Murietta, Calif.) triple to right-center field. Labshere followed with a single to score Velk.
The Tigers struck for six unearned runs in the second inning, including a grand slam by Missy McCormick.
Sophomore pitcher Aimee Chapdelaine (Pembroke Pines, Fla., 1-7) allowed six runs (one earned) in 1.2 innings with two strikeouts in the loss. Freshman Lindsay Mayer (Lincoln, R.I.) gave up one run with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings of relief.
Ambar Hickman (4-1) allowed two runs with six strikeouts a complete game for the win.
Up next, the Cavaliers travel out to the West Coast to take part in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Feb. 20-22 in Cathedral City, Calif.
