Dudzinski Breaks 100 Back School Record on Day Three of ACCs

GREENSBORO, N.C.—The Virginia men’s swimming and diving team earned two medals and broke a school record on the third day of the ACC Championship Friday (Feb. 28) at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
With one day to go, the Cavaliers sit in sixth place with 636 points, behind Virginia Tech (815.5), NC State (807.5), North Carolina (675), Notre Dame (652) and Florida State (646.5). Georgia Tech is seventh with 329.5 points, followed by Duke (325), Pittsburgh (280), Boston College (167) and Miami (128).
“We had some outstanding individual performances today and are swimming well overall as a team, but this has been an extremely fast meet across the board,” UVa head coach Augie Busch said. “We have to continue to do so tomorrow, which is by far our best day and finish the meet strong.”
Sophomore Yannick Kaeser (Mumpf, Switzerland) earned silver in the 100 breast in a time of 52:95. His prelim time of 52.88 was the second-fastest time in school history.
Senior Jack Murfee (Nashville, Tenn.) placed third in the 100 back in a time of 46.30, while junior Kyle Dudzinski (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Luke Papendick (Kinnelon, N.J.) were fourth and fifth in 46.57 and 46.86, respectively. Dudzinski’s prelim time of 46.06 is a new Virginia record, while Murfee’s time in the final (46.30) is the second-fastest mark in school history.
In the 400 IM, junior David Ingraham (Spartanburg, S.C.) placed fourth in 3:46.72. In the prelims, he finished in 3:42.94, an NCAA automatic-qualifying time and the second-fastest time in school history. Senior Brad Phillips (Herndon, Va.) won the consolation final in 3:45.34, the fourth-fastest time on UVa’s all-time list. Fellow senior Serge Gould (Bethesda, Md.) placed 15th overall in 3:52.10.
The 400 medley relay team of Murfee, Kaeser, Ingraham and Dudzinski placed fourth in an NCAA automatic-qualifying time of 3:08.64, the second-fastest time in school history.
The ACC Championship concludes Saturday (March 1) with prelims at 11 a.m. and finals at 7 p.m. of the 1,650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 100 breast, 100 fly and 400 free relay.
