Virginia Drops Rubber Game with No. 9 Florida State, 15-0

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia softball team dropped the rubber game of a three-game series with No. 9 Florida State, 15-0, Sunday (March 9) at The Park. With the loss, the Cavaliers fell to 3-16 (1-5 ACC), while the Seminoles improved to 20-3 (2-1 ACC).
FSU used an 11-run third inning to break open the game for Lacey Waldrop (11-2), who threw a no-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks.
Sophomore pitcher Aimee Chapdelaine (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) took the loss to fall to 3-14 on the season, allowing nine runs. Freshman Lindsay Mayer (Lincoln, R.I.) gave up six runs in three innings of relief with a season-high four strikeouts.
Bailey Chinella had four RBI and Maddie O’Brien drove in three and had two doubles to lead FSU.
The Cavaliers head to Atlanta, Ga., Wednesday (March 12) for a doubleheader at Georgia Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
