No. 5 Virginia Posts Road Win at No. 13 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 5 Virginia rallied in a 5-2 win at No. 13 Michigan in non-conference women’s tennis action Friday (March 14) at Varsity Tennis Center.
Virginia avenged a 4-3 loss earlier this week at No. 12 Georgia to improve to 10-4. Michigan falls to 8-3.
Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas), Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Rachel Pierson (Princeton, N.J.), Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Li Xi (Kunming, China) posted singles wins for the victorious Cavaliers.
Michigan claimed the doubles point with victories at Nos. 3 and 2. Ronit Yurovsky and Laura Ucros defeated No. 41 Nauta and Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) 8-3 on court three and No. 75 Sarah Lee and Amy Zhu defeated Collins and Xi 8-7(2) on court two.
The Wolverines made the score 2-0 with Zhu’s 6-4, 6-2 win over Epstein on court five before Virginia took control of the match.
No. 47 Nauta beat No. 98 Brooke Bolender 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 on court three and Elbaba tied the score at 2-2 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 7 Emina Bektas on court one. No. 55 Pierson gave UVa its first lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 103 Lee before No. 67 Collins clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over No. 20 Yurovsky on court two. Xi beat Ucros 6-2, 7-5 on court six to make the final score 5-2.
The Cavaliers host Notre Dame in ACC action on Friday, March 21. First serve at Snyder Tennis Center is set for 3:30 p.m.
