UVa Men's Golfers Open Schenkel Invitational Tied for Third Place

Statesboro, Ga. – The No. 7 Virginia men’s golf team is tied for third place with Texas after the opening round of the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. The Cavaliers shot 2-over 290 to start the three-day, 54-hole event. UAB leads the field at 3-under 285.
Denny McCarthy led the Cavaliers by firing 2-under 70 to stand in eighth place. Jimmy Stanger opened with a 72 and is in 17th place. Ben Rusch and Nick McLaughlin both turned in scores of 74 and are tied for 29th. Derek Bard is in 48th place at 75.
North Florida’s Taylor Hancock and Kentucky’s David Snyder are tied for first in stroke play at 4-under 68.
The second round of the tournament will be held Saturday and the final round is slated for Sunday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
