Virginia Falls to Syracuse, 14-3

CHARLOTTESVILE, Va.—The Virginia softball team dropped the final game of a three-game series to Syracuse, 14-3, Sunday afternoon (March 16) at The Park. The Cavaliers fell to 3-21 (1-10), while Syracuse improved to 10-14 (3-3 ACC).
In the bottom of the second, freshman Iyana Hughes (Manteca, Calif.) tripled to score fellow freshman Lindsay Mayer(Lincoln, R.I.) and came around to score on a double by junior Megan Harris (Knoxville, Tenn.).
The Cavaliers scored another run in the sixth after freshman Madison Labshere (El Cajon, Calif.) doubled to lead off the frame and came home on a grounder by Mayer.
Sophomore pitcher Aimee Chapdelaine (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) pitched the complete game, striking out four in the loss (3-19).
Jasmine Watson hit a pair of two-run home runs to lead the Orange.
Sydney O’Hara allowed two runs in two innings as Syracuse’s starter. Lindsey Larkin (1-2) pitched four innings of relief to earn the win, allowing one run.
Up next, the Cavaliers host two mid-week doubleheaders against Maryland (March 19) and Fordham (March 20). Both doubleheaders are scheduled for 4 p.m. starts.
