No. 3 Virginia Earns a 7-0 Victory at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 3 Virginia women’s tennis team (13-4, 7-1 ACC) earned a 7-0 victory at No. 58 Virginia Tech (10-8, 3-6 ACC) on Saturday (March 29) at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
The victory marked the Cavaliers’ second-straight 7-0 win against an ACC opponent. Virginia also went 6-0 in singles and won the doubles point last Sunday (March 23) against Pitt.
Virginia opened the day by winning the doubles point with sophomore Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) and senior Li Xi (Kunming, China) cruising to an 8-0 victory on the second court followed by an 8-4 victory on the third court by sophomore Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and sophomore Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.).
In singles, Nauta and Xi earned 6-1, 6-1 victories on courts three and six, respectively. Freshman Rachel Pierson (Princeton, N.J.) clinched UVa’s victory with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Sansitha Nandakumar at No. 4. Sophomore Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) earned a victory on court one after her opponent retired while trailing 6-3, 4-1. Collins earned a 7-6, 6-1 victory on court two and Epstein won 7-5, 6-4 to finish off the sweep.
The Cavaliers will be home next weekend, hosting back-to-back ACC matches at Snyder Tennis Center. On Saturday, April 5, the Cavaliers host Georgia Tech at 12 p.m. followed by a Sunday, April 6 match against Clemson.
