SYDNEY, Australia—Former Virginia rower Susanne Grainger earned bronze with the Canadian women’s pair at the World Rowing Cup I regatta held in Sydney, Australia March 28-30.
Grainger and teammate Natalie Mastracci finished in a time of 7:17.02, behind crews from New Zealand (7:09.70) and China (7:14.62). Another former UVa standout, Christine Roper, was in a separate Canada entry, placing fourth in 7:24.91.
This is the third medal on the senior international stage for Grainger, a 2013 graduate. Grainger was a part of the Canadian women’s eight that picked up bronze medals at the 2013 World Rowing Cup I regatta in Sydney and at the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju, South Korea. Grainger was a CRCA Second-Team All-American in 2013 and was a member of the Cavaliers’ 2010 and 2012 national championship teams.
Roper, a 2011 UVa graduate, earned two medals for Canada at the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju, including silver in the women’s four and bronze in the women’s eight.
