Virginia Drops Finale to North Carolina, 8-0

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia softball team fell, 8-0 in five innings, to North Carolina in the series finale Sunday (April 6) afternoon at The Park. The Tar Heels improved to 21-16 (12-5 ACC), while the Cavaliers fell to 4-32 (1-16 ACC).
UNC’s Lori Spingola (15-9) and Kendra Lynch combined for a two-hit shutout. Both of the Cavaliers’ hits came on the second inning with freshman Katie Park (Scottsdale, Ariz.) earning a single and senior Stephanie Harris (Knoxville, Tenn.) hitting a double.
Erin Satterfield and Lynch each had two RBI for North Carolina, who scored six runs in the first inning to break open the game.
Senior Marcy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va.) took the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season.
The Cavaliers return to action Wednesday (April 9) when they host Delaware State in a doubleheader scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
