RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 4 Virginia continued its strong play by blanking NC State 7-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference women’s tennis action Saturday (April 12) at Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium.

Virginia has won seven consecutive matches and improved its record to 16-4 overall and 10-1 ACC, while NC State dropped to 7-11, 1-10.

The Cavaliers won the doubles point and Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas), Rachel Pierson (Princeton, N.J.), Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Marie Faure (Toulouse, France) each posted singles victories for Virginia’s fifth shutout of the season.

Virginia rallied to record the doubles point, receiving wins at Nos. 1-3. Virginia dropped an 8-6 decision on court two, but Nauta and Li Xi (Kunming, China) beat Joelle Kissell and Sophie Nelson 8-4 on court one and Pierson and Faure topped Nicole Martinez and Elisha Hande 8-7 on court three.

In singles, Epstein beat Liza Fieldsend 6-3, 6-0 on court four and Peretz ousted Nelson 6-2, 6-2 on court five. No. 59 Pierson defeated Martinez 6-3, 6-1 on court three and No. 45 Nauta beat Rachael James-Baker 7-5, 6-4 on court two. Faure gave Virginia a commanding 6-0 lead with a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 win over Christy Sipes on court six and No. 33 Collins closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kissell on court one.

Virginia continues ACC action at No. 66 Wake Forest on Sunday.
