Virginia Completes Weekend Sweep With 6-1 Win at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – No. 4 Virginia stretched its winning streak to a school-best eight matches with a 6-1 win at No. 66 Wake Forest in Atlantic Coast Conference women’s tennis action Sunday (April 13).
Virginia improved its record to 17-4 overall and 11-1 ACC, while Wake Forest fell to 11-11, 3-10.
The Cavaliers won the doubles point and Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas), Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.), Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Marie Faure (Toulouse, France) each posted singles victories to complete the weekend sweep. Virginia also defeated NC State 7-0 on Saturday and hasn’t lost since a 4-3 setback at Georgia on March 12.
Virginia recorded wins at Nos. 1 and 2 to earn the doubles point. Nauta and Li Xi (Kunming, China) beat Xue Zhang and Kasey Gardiner 8-3 on court one and Collins and Epstein beat Luisa Fernandez and Samantha Asch 8-4 on court two.
The Cavaliers won five of six singles matches. No. 45 Nauta beat Kimmy Guerin 6-1, 6-1 on court two and No. 33 Collins beat Andrea Retolaza 6-1, 6-1 on court one. Epstein clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Asch on court four and Peretz defeated Gardiner 6-2, 6-3 on court five.
Fernandez claimed Wake Forest’s lone point with a 6-4, 1-6, 1-0(4) win over No. 59 Rachel Pierson(Princeton, N.J.) on court three. Xi closed the scoring with a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Zhang on court six.
Virginia continues ACC action at Florida State on April 18.
