Virginia Alums Michelle Vittese and Paige Selenski Named to Champions Challenge Roster

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former Virginia field hockey players Paige Selenski (’12) and Michelle Vittese (’12) have been named to the 18-player U.S. Women’s National Team roster that will compete at the 2014 Champions Challenge in Glasgow, Scotland, April 27-May 4.
The Champions Challenge is the final step of preparation for the squad on the road to the 2014 Rabobank Hockey World Cup in The Hague, The Netherlands. Most recently, Team USA took on Canada in a four-game test series at the new Home of Hockey, Spooky Nook Sports, in Lancaster, Pa. The squad swept Canada 4-0 in the series.
The U.S. is currently ranked 10th in the world and is one of the higher-ranked teams competing in the 2014 Champions Challenge. Team USA will play in Pool B against Ireland, South Africa and Spain. Eighth-ranked South Korea will play in Pool A against Belgium, India and host-Scotland.
Selenski has been a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team since 2009 and has earned 93 caps. Vittese, the 2011 USA Field Hockey Player of the Year, has earned 90 caps.
Selenski and Vittese were both members of the American squad that won silver at the 2011 Champions Challenge in Dublin, Ireland. Selenski and Vittese were also members of the U.S. National team that won gold at the 2011 Pan American Games and competed at the 2012 London Olympics.
