Collins Advances to Round of 16 at NCAA Singles Championship

ATHENS, Ga. – Virginia sophomore Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) advanced to the round of 16 at the NCAA Singles Championship on Thursday (May 22) at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.
No. 32 Collins (33-10) posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 18 Annet Schutting of Cal in the round of 32 and will face No. 2 Robin Anderson of UCLA in the round of 16 on Friday (May 23). With the round of 32 win, Collins earned her first All-America singles honor as a top-16 finisher in the tournament.
Seventh-seeded Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and Rachel Pierson(Princeton, N.J.) were defeated 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) by USC’s No. 16 Brynn Boren and Zoe Katz in the opening round of 32 at the NCAA Doubles Championship. Despite the loss, Elbaba and Pierson (28-13) earned Virginia’s first All-America doubles honor as a seeded tandem.
