Collins Beats Carter To Reach NCAA Singles Semifinals

ATHENS, Ga. – Virginia sophomore Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) defeated North Carolina’s Hayley Carter in three sets in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Women’s Singles Championship on Saturday (May 24) at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.

No. 32 Collins (34-10) defeated No. 7 Carter 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 and will play No. 27 Ester Goldfeld of Duke in the semifinals on Sunday (May 25).

Collins is the first Virginia women’s player in school history to play in the NCAA quarterfinals or higher during her impressive run at the tournament. Collins has defeated No. 43 Veronica Corning of Northwestern, No. 18 Annet Schutting of Cal, No. 2 Robin Anderson of UCLA and No. 7 Carter in the tournament.

She has earned Virginia’s fourth All-America singles honor, joining Lindsey Hardenbergh (2011) and Julia Elbaba (2013-14).
