CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Five Virginia field hockey players have earned spots at the USA Field Hockey Under 21 Championships, being held June 21-25, 2014 at Spooky Nook Sports, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The second annual Under 21 Championship will feature the top 72 U21 athletes from across the country. Athletes will be playing for a highly-coveted spot at this year’s Junior National Camp in the hopes to be selected to one of the 2014-2015 Junior National Teams.

Sophomores Jeannie Blackwood (Virginia Beach, Va.), Emily Faught (Newton Square, Pa.), Emilia Tapsall (Old Greenwich, Ct.), Riley Tata (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Macy Peebles (Yorktown, Pa.) have all been invited to the tournament.

The Cavaliers also have a pair of athletes competing in this week’s USA Field Hockey Women’s National Championship at Spooky Nook Sports. Sisters Carissa Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.), a graduated senior, and incoming freshman Tara Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.) are competing against one another with Carissa playing on the Patriots team while Tara is competing on the U21 squad. Last year, Carissa was a member of the champion Mid-South/Atlantic squad alongside her other sister, UVa alum Michelle Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.). Tara also competed for the U21 team at the 2013 Women’s National Championship.
