EVANSTON, Ill.-The Virginia volleyball team fell to Northwestern, 25-22, 25-23 and 25-18, in the final match of the Wildcat Classic Saturday evening (Sept. 13). With the loss, the Cavaliers fell to 6-3 on the season, while the Wildcats improved to 8-1.
Northwestern outhit the Cavaliers, .289-.153, led in digs, 60-49, and was led by Katie Dutchman, who hit .571 with eight kills and no errors.
The Cavaliers were led by junior Kayla Sears (Moorpark, Calif.), who recorded 12 kills, and sophomore Jasmine Burton (White Hills, Calif.), who added 10 kills.
Senior Tori Janowski (Sterling, Va.) led the squad with 16 digs, while junior Natalie Bausback (Carlsbad, Calif.) led UVa with four blocks.
Up next, the Cavaliers travel to Richmond, Virginia, for the VCU Invitational. UVa plays Ball State on Sept. 19 and East Tennessee State and the tournament-host Rams on Sept. 20.
