CHARLOTTESVILLE – The second-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team completed its non-conference schedule Wednesday with a 5-0 victory over Old Dominion at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers (8-0-0) went unbeaten/untied through the non-conference for the second consecutive year with the victory, the fourth time in program history, while the Monarchs fell to 1-4-2 this season.

Virginia had five different goal scorers on the evening, led by junior Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) and sophomore Morgan Reuther (Chantilly, Va.), who each had a goal and an assist. First-years Megan Reid (Orinda, Calif.) and Veronica Latsko (Venetia, Pa.) and junior Brittany Ratcliffe (Williamstown, N.J.) also scored for the Cavaliers, who matched their season-high with the five-goal performance.

“The mid-week games are always a bit of a challenge,” said associate head coach Ron Raab. “ODU didn’t come in with an impressive record, but all of their games were one-goal games. We thought it was important to come out early and establish the tone of the game. Our speed of play was very good in the first half and it led to some good scoring chances. We took advantage of those chances and that made things a lot easier for us in the second half.”

The Cavaliers took control of the game early and grabbed the lead in the eighth minute. A clearance from the ODU goalkeeper was directed towards midfield where Reid hit a one-time volley forward towards the box that took one bounce at the penalty spot and rolled in for her first career goal. The lead was doubled in the 28th minute as Doniak blasted a shot which led to a tap-in rebound for Ratcliffe to score her fifth goal of the season. Reuther notched her first goal of the season in the 38th minute as she one-timed in a cross from Stephanie Krouskos (Alpharetta, Ga.), as the first-year recorded her first career assist. Latsko rounded out the first half scoring in the final 30 seconds, dribbling to the top of the box before placing a shot just inside the post for her third goal of the season.

Doniak scored the only goal of the second half in the 53rd minute. Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.) sent a ball over the top that found Doniak in stride. She one-timed a chip over the out-rushing keeper to score her fifth goal of the season, tying Ratcliffe for the team lead. The goal moved Doniak into sixth place on Virginia’s career goal list with 35, while also moving her into eighth place in school history with 87 career points. The assist was the 30th of Colaprico’s career, as she became the fifth Cavalier to reach that milestone.

Overall, Virginia outshot Old Dominion 29-2 and had a 7-1 corner kick advantage. Sophomore Jessie Ferrari (Fairfax, Va.) made her first career start in goal, recording one save to post her first career shutout. Samantha Frowen made five saves in the first half for Old Dominion before making way for Erin Kinz, who had three saves in the second half.

Virginia will open ACC play on Saturday as it hosts Miami. Game time at Klöckner Stadium is 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast online through Cavaliers Live.
