Styslinger/Corinteli Win Doubles Title at UVa Ranked+1 Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team continued play Saturday at the UVa Ranked+1 Invitational at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers won one doubles title and had two singles players advance to flight finals during the second day of play.
Junior Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) and sophomore Luca Corniteli (Alexandria, Va.) won the Blue Doubles draw to highlight Saturday action. The duo topped Michael Lippens and Sebastian Stiefelmeyer of Louisville, 8-5, in the championship match.
Styslinger and sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) advanced to singles flight finals with a pair of wins Saturday, including one over a top-50 opponent.
Styslinger, the No. 4 seed in the Orange Singles draw, opened the day with a 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 win over Christian Seraphim of Wake Forest in the quarterfinals. He followed that win with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-0 victory over top-seeded Amerigo Contini of Virginia Tech, the nation’s No. 14 ranked player. He will play unseeded Albert Wagner of Louisville in Sunday’s final.
Sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.), the No. 4 seed in the Blue Singles draw, posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over David Biosca of East Tennessee State in the quarterfinals. He advanced to the final with a 7-5, 3-6, 5-4 (ret.) win over top-seed Carlos Lopez Villa of Old Dominion, the nation’s No. 42 player. He will play Stiefelmeyer in the final, who is ranked No. 110 nationally.
The singles finals will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Center. Admission is free.
