Swab, Roberts Join Virginia Baseball Staff

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia baseball head coach Brian O’Connor has announced the hiring of Robby Swab and Mike Roberts to his staff. Swab will serve as the Director of Baseball Operations, while Roberts will take over as the Coordinator of Video and Scouting.
Swab will have a wide range of responsibilities, as he will be involved in every aspect of the program. He will serve as the team’s travel coordinator and also will assist with all aspects of game-day operations and on-campus recruiting.
A graduate of Presbyterian College, Swab was the volunteer assistant coach at Gardner-Webb last season. After attending Young Harris Junior College, he played two seasons of Division I baseball as a catcher at Presbyterian.
Swab also has coaching experience as an assistant with the Kernersville Post 36 Senior American Legion Baseball Team. His older brother Kenny Swab played at Virginia from 2010-11.
Roberts will manage the day-to-day operations of the team’s internal video system and coordinate all scouting video.
Roberts played at VMI from 2006-08 and was selected to the 2008 Johnny Bench Award Watch List. He was selected in the 38th round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers and reached the high-A level with the Brevard County Manatees in 2010 and 2011. He served as a player-coach with the Manatees in 2011 and 2012.
After his playing career concluded, Roberts served as a volunteer assistant coach at VMI from 2012-14 and worked with Keydet catcher Matt Winn, who was a semifinalist for the 2013 Johnny Bench Award. He also has spent time as a camp instructor and coaching clinic speaker at several universities in the area.
