CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s cross country teams travels to Seattle this week to compete Saturday at the Washington Invitational. The Cavaliers are part of an elite field where nine of the 10 teams are nationally ranked, including five top-10 squads.
The men’s 8K race will begin at 11:45 a.m. PT (2:45 p.m. ET) at the Jefferson Park Golf Course, located just south of downtown Seattle.
The No. 13 Cavaliers will compete against one of the strongest fields of any cross country meet in the nation this fall. The meet features five top-10 squads: No. 2 Northern Arizona, No. 5 Portland, No. 6 Stanford, No. 7 Indiana and No. 9 Villanova. Three other ranked teams, No. 20 UCLA, No. 26 Oklahoma and No. 28 Washington, along with Idaho, round out the field.
The Cavaliers are coming off a victory last week at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational, where they edged Furman and No. 12 Iona for the win. Junior Kyle King (Yorktown, Va.) led Virginia with a third-place performance and was one of four Cavaliers to finish in the top 10. Junior Zach Herriott (Kansas City, Mo.) was seventh, sophomore Connor Rog (Fairfield, Conn.) was eighth and sophomore Thomas Madden (Front Royal, Va.) finished in 10th place last week.
The meet is the last competition for the Virginia men before they host the ACC Championships on Oct. 31 at Panorama Farms. The Cavalier women return to action on Oct. 17 with the Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, prior to hosting the ACC Championships.
