Oct. 4, 2014 TULSA, Okla. – Virginia sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) posted two victories Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships at the University of Tulsa. Kwiatkowski, who posted the first top-15 win of his career on Friday, posted two more on Saturday, including an upset of the nation’s top ranked player.

Kwiatkowski, who reached the main draw through qualifying, opened the day with a three-set win over No. 12 Austin Smith of Georgia, 6-1, 6-7(3), 6-3, in the round of 16. It marked the fifth consecutive year that Virginia has had a player advance to the ITA All-American quarterfinals, the longest active streak in the nation.

Kwiatkowski followed up that victory with a straight-set win over the nation’s top-ranked player Julian Lenz of Baylor in the quarterfinals. His 6-2, 6-3 victory moved him into the semifinals, where he will play Sebastian Stiefelmeyer of Louisville. It will be the second meeting of the fall between the two players, as Kwiatkowski defeated Stiefelmeyer 6-1, 6-3 two weeks ago in the final of the blue singles draw of the UVa Ranked+1 Invitational.

The semifinals will be held Sunday at the Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa, with the final scheduled for Monday.
