Cavaliers Improve to Sixth at Bank of Tennessee

Oct. 11, 2014 Johnson City, Tenn. – The 21st-ranked Virginia men’s golf team managed to finish its second round at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate to improve to sixth place with several teams still on the course when play was suspended due to darkness.
UVa opened Saturday by finishing its first round at 11-over 299. The Cavaliers shot 11-under 277 during the second round to complete 36 holes at even par 576. Wake Forest leads the event at 18-under 558 while East Tennessee State is second at 563.
Virginia senior Denny McCarthy (Rockville, Md.) is in second place at 8-under 136. He shot 69 during the first round and fired a 5-under 67 during the second round. Wake Forest’s Will Zalatoris leads the field at 10-under 134.
Nick McLaughlin stands at 147 (78-69) after 36 holes while Derek Bard (77-71) and Austen Truslow (75-73) are one shot behind him on the leaderboard. Jimmy Stanger’s two-round total is 149 (79-70).
The second round will be completed Sunday morning followed by the final round of play.
