CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Orange & Blue World Series resumes this week with the final three games of the seven-game intrasquad series. Game 5, originally scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed because of rain, prompting an alteration of the weekend schedule.
Game 5 now will held on Friday night. At 6 p.m. prior to the start of the game, Virginia will hold the ring ceremony to honor the 2014 NCAA runner-up team. The game will start approximately 10 minutes following the conclusion of the ceremony. The ring ceremony also will air on WINA 1070-AM in Charlottesville (WINA.com online) and the game will be broadcast up until 7:30 p.m. Following the ring ceremony, former players from the 2014 team will sign autographs on the concourse level through the end of the first inning.
The teams now will play Game 6 at 4 p.m. Saturday, while Game 7 will be played at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The seven-game Orange & Blue World Series is broken up into two three-game series (Games 1-3 and Games 4-6 are separate series) as well as a stand-alone Game 7. If a given team wins the first two games of either series, the third game of that series will be played based on run differential of the first two games to allow the trailing team a chance to still win the series. Each team is encouraged to score as many runs as possible and not worry about running up the score.
The Blue team took the first three-game series, and the Orange team has a 1-0 series edge in the second series.
There is no admission charge for any of Virginia’s exhibition games or Orange and Blue World Series contests. Free parking will be available in the University Hall lot. Fans should plan to enter Davenport Field for all fall games along the first-base line and not the main gate. The best route to reach this entrance is by using the road adjacent to the Lannigan Field track complex.
