DURHAM, N.C.-The Virginia volleyball team fell at No. 21 Duke, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-23, Friday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium. With the loss, the Cavaliers dropped to 11-9 (4-3 ACC), while the Blue Devils won its 10th-consecutive match and improved to 15-3 (7-0 ACC).
Duke outhit the Cavaliers, .288-.155, and led in digs, 70-54.
Junior Natalie Bausback (Carlsbad, Calif.) led the Cavaliers, hitting .417 with 12 kills and four blocks, while sophomore Haley Kole (Tallahassee, Fla.) added 10 kills on .300 hitting. Sophomore Lexi Riccolo (Wheaton, Ill.) led the squad with 17 digs.
The Blue Devils hit .343 on the way to a 25-14 first-set win. In the second set, Duke used an 8-3 run after the score was 14-14 and went on to claim the frame, 25-18. The Cavaliers went on a 6-0 run to take a 23-22 lead, but Duke scored the next three points to clinch the match, 25-23.
Emily Sklar led the Blue Devils with 19 kills on .302 hitting.
The Cavaliers return to action next weekend, hosting NC State on Oct. 24 and Notre Dame on Oct. 25. Both matches are set for a 7 p.m. start.
