CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia junior Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) swept the ITA Atlantic Regional titles Tuesday, winning the singles championship and teaming with sophomore Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.) to win the doubles crown. Shane becomes the second Cavalier to sweep the regional titles in the same year, joining Jarmere Jenkins, who accomplished the feat in 2010.
In the singles final, second-seeded Shane downed top-seeded Amerigo Contini of Virginia Tech, 6-2, 7-6(6). He becomes the seventh Cavalier to win an ITA Regional singles title.
In the doubles final, the fifth-seeded team of Shane and Corinteli defeated the seventh-seeded pair of Alexandre Drean and Daniel Gray of UMBC, 6-3, 6-3, winning Virginia’s fifth ITA Regional doubles title.
As the ITA Atlantic Regional champions, Shane and the team of Shane and Corinteli earn bids to the ITA National Indoor Championships, held November 6-9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. Sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) will also be in the 32-player singles field, having earned a spot with his semifinal finish at the ITA All-American Championships earlier this month.
