Virginia Opens Road Swing With 3-1 Victory at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C.-The Virginia volleyball team defeated Clemson, 25-23, 25-19, 20-25 and 26-24, Friday evening (Oct. 31) in the first of four-consecutive away matches. The Cavaliers improved to 14-9 (7-3 ACC), while the Tigers fell to 16-8 (4-6 ACC).
For the match, the Cavaliers hit .319 to Clemson’s .265, while both teams had seven blocks.
Senior Tori Janowski (Sterling, Va.) recorded a double-double with 13 kills on .500 hitting with 13 digs. Sophomore Jasmine Burton (West Hills, Calif.) led the team with 14 kills on .464 hitting, while fellow sophomore Haley Kole (Tallahassee, Fla.) hit 12 kills. Junior Natalie Bausback (Carlsbad, Calif.) added nine kills and a team-high five blocks, while sophomore Lexi Riccolo (Wheaton, Ill.) recorded a team-high 14 digs.
In the first set, the Tigers led 14-9, but the Cavaliers earned five in a row to tie the set. With the set tied at 18, UVa went on a 4-1 mini run and never allowed Clemson to tie the set again, winning 25-23.
Virginia opened the second set on a 7-2 run and went on to win the frame, 25-19. In the third, UVa hit only .053, while the Tigers hit .211 on the way to a 25-20 victory.
In the fourth, the Cavaliers were down, 24-21, before earning the next five points to clinch the match, 26-24. UVa finished the match on a block by Kole and Bausback and a kill by Kole.
Kristin Faust had a match-high 20 kills to lead Clemson.
