Huey Named Player-Coach of Manila Mavericks

MANILA, Philippines – Former Virginia men’s tennis player Treat Huey (Class of 2008) will serve as player-coach of the Manila Mavericks during the inaugural season of the International Premier Tennis League. The four-team league will compete in four cities this November and December
The four teams, the Manila Mavericks, UAE Royals, Indian Aces and Singapore Slammers, will compete Nov. 28-Dec. 13 in four Asian cities in a round robin format. Each match will consist of a set each of men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, mixed doubles, and if necessary, a legends singles tiebreak. Each team’s roster is highlighted by top current and former men’s and women’s players.
Joining Huey on the Manila Mavericks is 2013 Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova, former world No. 1 Carlos Moya, former top-five player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, former world No. 1 doubles player Daniel Nestor, and top-15 women’s player Kirsten Flipkens.
The league will play in Manila (Nov. 28-30), Singapore (Dec. 2-4), New Delhi (Dec. 6-8) and Dubai (Dec. 11-13).
