Complete All-Southeast Region Team
CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s soccer team had four players honored Wednesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as the 2014 All-Southeast Region teams were announced. Seniors Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) and Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.) and juniors Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Emily Sonnett (Marietta, Ga.) were all named to the first team, which makes them eligible for NSCAA All-America honors.
Virginia led all schools with four first-team selections on this year’s team. Brian is a four-time first-team All-Southeast Region honoree, while Colaprico, Doniak and Sonnett were all first-team selections for the second consecutive year.
Brian has 10 goals and 13 assists, appearing in 16 games this season. She missed eight games because of international duty as she was the only collegiate player on the United States Women’s National Team for the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying tournament in October. The reigning MAC Hermann Trophy winner is the leading scorer in this year’s NCAA Tournament with four goals and eight assists, including tying the NCAA Tournament single-game record with five assists in the 8-0 first-round victory over High Point.
Doniak leads the ACC in scoring, posting a school-record 49 points on 19 goals and 11 assists. In the 7-0 victory over Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament round of 16, she set the school record for points in a game with eight, recording her second career hat trick to go along with two assists. Doniak also had a seven-game goal-scoring streak this season, the second-longest streak in school history.
Colaprico leads the ACC in assists with 18, a single-season school record and the most by an ACC player since 2007. The 2014 ACC Midfielder of the Year, Colaprico has also posted career-highs of six goals and 30 points this season. She holds the Virginia career records for assists (43) and appearances (98).
Sonnett has anchored a Cavalier defense that has recorded a 0.58 goals against average, posted 12 shutouts and allowed just 5.4 shots per game this season. Offensively, she has contributed four goals and three assists.
The Cavaliers are making their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Women’s College Cup and will play Texas A&M Friday in a national semifinal in Boca Raton, Fla. Game time at FAU Stadium is 5 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPNU.
