CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Virginia volleyball head coach Dennis Hohenshelt announced Tuesday (Feb. 18) that Stephanie Ross has joined the Cavalier program as an assistant coach. Ross previously served as an assistant coach at Dayton and High Point.
“I am thrilled that Stephanie has decided to join us at The University of Virginia,” Hohenshelt said. “She has always been someone that I have kept my eye on when we have been on the recruiting trail as she is an extremely diligent and hard worker. When Stevie (Mussie) accepted the job at Penn State, Stephanie was the first person I thought of to replace her. Stephanie came highly recommended from a number of head coaches I respect and they all attested to her outstanding work ethic, ability to connect with recruits, and her high volleyball knowledge.”
Ross returned to her native Dayton, Ohio, for the 2013 season as the Flyers’ assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. The previous two seasons, Ross was an assistant coach at High Point, where she landed recruits that played for the USA Women’s Junior A2 National Team, as well as Prep Volleyball All-American and Senior Aces list honorees.
The 2009 graduate of Pittsburgh began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Xavier in 2009 and 2010, while also coaching at the club level for Renaissance and Team Z.
“I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to join the Virginia volleyball program,” Ross said. “Virginia is a place of great tradition and I am looking forward to representing the university and helping this team to reach its highest potential. I have a lot of respect for Dennis for what he has accomplished as a coach and the direction he has taken the program. I cannot wait to get started. Go Hoos!”
At Pitt, Ross was a member of the Big East All-Academic squad and a four-year starter for the Panthers, seeing time at multiple positions, but mostly as an outside hitter. Ross graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in sociology.
