CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia freshman goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell (Todd, N.C.) has been called into to the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team’s international training camp in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The 19-man team will train from Sept. 1-10. The highlighted game of the trip will include a matchup against Argentina’s U-20s on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Caldwell is one of just four current college players to earn a spot on the roster. He also has spent time with the U.S. U-17 and U-18 teams during his career.
The U-20 MNT also could play potentially two matches against two first division reserve teams. Details will be announced in the future.
Caldwell started the Cavaliers’ season opener last Friday (Aug. 30) against Old Dominion and recorded a clean sheet in UVa’s 1-0 overtime win. He recorded two saves. Six players are on Major League Soccer squads, including New York Red Bulls teammates Santiago Castaño and Matthew Miazga, the LA Galaxy’s Bradford Jamieson IV, Zach Pfeffer from the Philadelphia Union, San Jose Earthquakes forward Tommy Thompson and Sporting Kansas City’s Erik Palmer-Brown.
