CHARLOTTESVILLE – The third-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team opened the 2015 season Friday night with a 7-0 victory over No. 54 George Washington in a first round match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

The Cavaliers (1-0) will play Louisville (2-1) on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the championship match of the weekend, with the winner advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships next month in Chicago. George Washington and VCU, who Louisville defeated 4-0 on Friday, will play in the consolation match at 2 p.m.

“I believe this was a good start to the season,” said head coach Brian Boland. “George Washington is an outstanding team and they are going to have a lot of success this season. The guys played well and competed hard through the course of the match. I feel good about where we are at, at this point of the season, and we look forward to a challenging match against Louisville tomorrow.”

The Cavaliers opened the match by winning the doubles point for a 1-0 lead.
