Cavaliers Fall to Utah Valley, Wisconsin at Kajikawa Classic

TEMPE, Ariz.-The Virginia softball team fell to Utah Valley, 5-4, and Wisconsin, 5-0, on the final day of the Kajikawa Classic at Farrington Stadium Saturday (Feb. 7). The Cavaliers fell to 1-4 on the season.
Behind 4-1 to Utah Valley (2-1) going into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cavaliers loaded the bases and freshman Brittany McNulla (Litchfield, N.H.) and sophomore Iyana Hughes (Manteca, Calif.) drew walks to cut the lead to 4-3. Hailey Kofler hit a solo home run for Utah Valley in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 5-3. Freshman Allison Davis (Oak Hill, Va.) and sophomore McKall Miller (Ashburn, Va.) led off with back-to-back doubles to cut the lead to one at 5-4, but UVa was unable to push across another run.
Bailey Moore allowed two runs 6.1 innings for Utah Valley, while Kelsey Lawton gave up two runs in 0.2 innings of relief.
Freshman Alex Formby (Orange, Calif.) allowed two runs in 1.1 innings of work, but fell to 0-3 on the season, while fellow Davis gave up three in 5.2 innings of relief.
Against Wisconsin (1-2), the Cavaliers recorded four hits, including two by freshman Danni Ingraham (Laguna Niguel, Calif.), but could not muster a run against Badger pitcher Annie Davis (1-1), who threw a shutout with five strikeouts.
Freshman Andie Formby (Orange, Calif.) threw the complete game, allowing five runs with two strikeouts in the loss (1-1).
Maria Van Abel led the Badgers, going 3-for-3 with three stolen bases.
The Cavaliers return to action next weekend Feb. 13-15 when they compete in a tournament at NC Central in Durham, N.C.
