FLORENCE, S.C.–The Virginia softball team dropped the series finale with Pittsburgh, 10-2 in five innings, Sunday afternoon (March 1) at FMU Softball Stadium. With the loss, the Cavaliers fell to 4-14 (1-2 ACC), while the Panthers improved to 15-2 (2-1 ACC).
The series was moved from because of field conditions from recent inclement weather in Charlottesville.
The Cavaliers earned their two runs in the bottom of the first when freshman Brittany McNulla (Hitchfield, N.H.) singled home sophomore Katie Park (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and freshman Allison Davis (Oak Hill, Va.).
Shelby Pickett went 3-for-4 with four RBI to lead Pitt, who scored multiple runs in four of five innings.
Savannah King pitched the complete game for Pitt to earn the win and move to 9-0 on the season. Freshman Andie Formby (Orange, Calif.) allowed 10 runs (seven earned) with three strikeouts in a complete-game loss to fall to 4-7.
The Cavaliers return to action Wednesday (March 4) when they travel to Harrisonburg, Va., to face James Madison in a doubleheader that is set to begin at 4 p.m.
