Coughlin Leads UVa Golfers on Day One of Rucker Intercollegiate

Hilton Head, S.C. – The 10th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is in 16th place following Friday’s opening round of play at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C. The Cavaliers shot 20-over 304. USC leads the 17-team field at 1-over 285.
Junior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) led the Cavaliers with a 1-over 72 that put her in 10th place after the opening 18 holes. Sophomore Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) is 17th position with a 73 while junior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) is 66th at 79.
Senior Briana Mao (Folsom, Calif.) is in 74th place with an 80 and freshman Maho Hayakawa (Lake Mary, Fla.) is one shot behind her in 76th place. Freshman Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, Va.), who is playing as a non-scoring individual, shot 5-over 76 and is in 48th place.
USC’s Gabriella Then leads the field after shooting 2-under 69.
The field for the tournament features 14 teams ranked in Golfstat’s current top-30 poll.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament takes place Saturday. Virginia will be paired with Kentucky during the second round and will tee off starting at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
