UVa Women's Golfers Finish Eighth at Rucker Intercollegiate

Hilton Head, S.C. – The 10th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team closed strong to finish in eighth place at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C. The Cavaliers shot 9-over 293 during Sunday’s final round for a 54-hole total of 48-over 900. Duke, ranked No. 6, won the tournament at 6-over 858.

The 17-team field included 14 teams ranked in the current Golfstat top-30 poll.

Sophomore Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) recorded her third top-10 finish of the season to lead the Cavaliers. Diaz-Yi shot 3-over 216 to place fifth overall. She posted a final-round score of 1-under 70.

Junior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) moved up to 30th place at 225, including a final day score of 2-over 73. Junior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) was one stroke behind her in 39th place after shooting 70 during the final round.

Senior Briana Mao (Folsom, Calif.) placed 70th at 235 and Maho Hayakawa (Lake Mary, Fla.) was 81st at 241. Freshman Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, Va.), who competed as a non-scoring individual, placed 66th at 232.

Duke’s Leona Maguire and LSU’s Madelene Sagstrom shared medalist honors at 6-under 213.
