CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.–The Virginia softball team fell to George Washinton, 5-2, Wednesday evening (March 25) at The Park.
The Cavaliers (7-26) had three players with two hits each, including freshman Allison Davis (Oak Hill, Va.), who earned two doubles to raise her team-leading tally to 12, junior Aimee Chapdelaine (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and freshman Danni Ingraham (Laguna Niguel, Calif.).
In the sixth, Davis led off with a double and scored on a groundout by sophomore Kaitlin Fitzgerald (Placentia, Calif.), while in the seventh, Chapdelaine singled to score freshman Lauren Heintzelman (Southlake, Texas).
Freshman Andie Formby (Orange, Calif.) fell to 5-14 on the season, allowing five runs in four innings of work. Chapdelaine threw three scoreless innings of relief.
GW (14-11) used a four-run third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Victoria Valos, to open up the game. Sarah Costlow (11-9) earned the win, allowing two runs in a complete game.
The Cavaliers return to action this weekend (March 28-29) when they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., for a three-game series at North Carolina. Both Saturday’s doubleheader and Sunday’s single game are set for 1 p.m. starts.
