Hoos in Third Place After 36 Holes at Yale Invite

New Haven, Conn. – – The 23rd-ranked Virginia men’s golf is in third place after the first day of the Yale Spring Invitational. The Cavaliers posted rounds of 1-over 281 and 8-over 288 on the Yale Golf Course for a 36-hole total of 569. Wake Forest leads the 14-team field at 554 followed by Clemson in second place at 563.
UVa was led by junior Kyle Kochevar (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), who shot 1-under 139 to stand third entering Sunday’s final round of play. Kochevar posted scores of 69 and 70. Both rounds were career bests for him.
Sophomore Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) is in 10th place at 142 followed by Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) in 13th place at 143 while Ji Soo Park (Clifton, Va.) is 22nd at 145 and Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) is 53rd at 151. Denny McCarthy (Rockville, Md.) was scratched for the UVa lineup due to illness.
Paired with Clemson and Wake Forest, UVa will start Sunday’s final round at 8:45 a.m. from the first hole. The tournament is the Cavaliers’ final regular-season event.
